Arsenal’s journey to the top four takes them through relegation contending and suddenly inspired Crystal Palace. Here is what you need to know.

Arsenal finally looked like they wanted to play football when they took the pitch against West Ham at midweek. They scored three pretty convincing goals and could have had plenty more. Mesut Ozil, Granit Xhaka and Mohamed Elneny, three guys with a lot to prove still this year, proved a ton.

The German maestro in particular looked keyed in and ready to change the game, which he did. It was a memorable effort and something we need to see continue.

However, Crystal Palace aren’t the easy foe that the table paints them as. It’s about that time where teams start fighting for their lives to avoid relegation and Palace seem to value their Premier League lives more than most. They have won four in a row against Chelsea, West Brom, Watford and Middlesbrough.

More from Pain in the Arsenal

In the process, we have seen the incredibly level of fight the Eagles have and we have also learned that Christian Benteke can be a mean, mean man. And it is that man that the Gunners most have to watch out for, especially with Emi Martinez back in goal.

Conveniently, we said the same thing about Andy Carroll and West Ham and the Englishman was successfully negated. However, Benteke is far less likely to keep dropping out of that No. 9 spot. He knows his job and he is going to be all up in Shkodran Mustafi and Gabriel Paulista‘s business, which, of course, is a nervy endeavor.

It’s all about momentum, as these two teams are bringing in their own forms of it. Crystal Palace’s momentum train is far longer and has far more steam than Arsenal’s, but the Gunner’s version is better, more advanced train and got out of the station pretty quickly.

The Gunners need to win to pass Manchester United and get back into the top five while Crystal Palace would love to take some sort of points at home to establish some cushion between them and the bottom four. If Palace can win their two games in hand, they could jet all the way up to mid table and eliminate all relegation fears.
