Arsenal are being strongly tied to Schalke left back Sead Kolasinac and when you look at what he brings, he completes the evolution of left back.

The hunt for a left back should be at the forefront of Arsenal’s summer to-do list. There are few priorities, if any, that are more obvious and, quite frankly, easier to fix.

There are just a ton of left backs out there. From Ricardo Rodriguez to Kieran Tierney, whatever kind of left back this club wants, they can find on the market. It was a wonder how they didn’t land Rodriguez last summer.

This time around, however, it looks to be Sead Kolasinac that is in the lead to finally, once and for all, fix the left back position at Arsenal.

Kolasinac did the reverse of Hector Bellerin, mastering the defensive side of the game first before learning that he is actually an incredibly effective offensive force. But it’s still his defensive abilities that should be the main draw, as this Gunner’s back line has been atrocious at times.

The Bosnian left back puts up some impressive numbers and it’s clear why – he doesn’t mess around. It’s that simple. There isn’t any funny business, just straightforward defending. And he isn’t afraid to scrap, which would be a welcome addition to a spineless club.

It would also be a welcome addition when stepping in for Nacho Monreal. Monreal has his qualities, no doubt. The Spaniard can be an inquisitive force sneaking in on the attack. But he is physically weak and is too easily sent to ground.

Kolasinac doesn’t go to ground unless he has no other option. He is a sturdy force who can double as a center back and not cost the position any of it’s physical presence.

More from Pain in the Arsenal

But don’t let that fool you into thinking he is brainless in the attack. Far from it. Kolasinac has contributed to eight goals this year. He has a knack for some pretty impressive probing passes and his crossing has improved by leaps and bounds since growing into the starting left back position.

It’s the whole packages with Kolasinac, with no strings attached. Perhaps the best part is the work rate and intensity. Two things that Arsenal can’t seem to find on anyone and they can both be found in the Bosnian.

We don’t lose anything that is currently working with Monreal, but it’s what we gain in Kolasinac that completes this evolution.

Reports indicate that Kolasnic’s agent is reviewing his client’s options, but given the lack of European football looming for Schalke, it wouldn’t be surprising to see him push for the door. Especially considering how he has been the best player for the German outfit this far into the summer.

Arsenal are past the point of waiting to see what happens. That applies to every position. Cohen Bramall may be a wonderful feel good story, but don’t try to tell me he is our solution to the plagued position.

Either Kolasinac or Rodriguez can change things. And change is needed.
