Arsenal take an always-worrying road trip Riverside Stadium to face Middlesbrough with both teams needing points. Here is all you need to know.

Arsenal comes into Riverside Stadium having just been blasted 3-0 to Crystal Palace. And that was just after blasting West Ham 3-0 at the Emirates. Trying to ascertain what might happen here is a difficult task. All we know for sure is that the Gunners struggle on the road, both with defending and scoring, and Middlesbrough know how to defend.

Particularly at home.

Although, to be fair to Arsenal’s odds, Boro has been struggling even worse the the North Londoners in recent weeks, even at home.

Even so, both teams have to feel pretty confident coming into this match that this will be the one to right the ship. While the Gunners are fighting (and yes, praying) to get back into a Champions League spot, Boro are trying to save enough points to get out of the relegation battle.

More from Pain in the Arsenal

They currently sit six points deep into 19th place, but they do have two crucial games in hand, which will undoubtedly play into the ambition they show at home against a flimsy visiting side.

In terms of team news, Middlesbrough will be welcoming back captain George Friend and creative kingpin Gaston Ramirez will also be available. The only player that will be unavailable will be Calum Chambers because he can’t face his parent club.

Arsenal, meanwhile are still riding the injury railway. Only Laurent Koscielny might make it back, with Petr Cech still questionable and David Ospina and Lucas Perez out.

This game is an absolute crap shoot. Alvaro Morata and Rudy Gestede have just enough strength and power to truly bother Wenger’s back line, particularly when used in tandem, but it could just as easily turn out to be a match that the Gunners put away early on.

Those first thirty minutes are crucial. You hear it so often, but a ridiculous amount of the Gunners success depends on getting off on the right foot, bagging a goal early, and then counterattacking. We will have to see if Boro stand strong or let Wenger have his way.
