Arsenal are supposedly set to sign Sead Kolasinac in the summer. The impending addition brings a key revelation regarding Arsene Wenger and his future.

The recent months have perhaps been the most turbulent and toughest for Arsene Wenger throughout his 21-year tenure in North London. Arsenal have proceeded to win just four games since February 11th, two of which came against non-league opposition in the FA Cup and the other two against lesser Premier League stragglers.

The dire form of the side has seen them drop out of the top four of the Premier League, and thereby threaten the unblemished Champions League qualification record of Wenger, exit Europe’s elite competition in historically humiliating fashion and the founding structures of the club vociferously questioned.

More from Pain in the Arsenal

The most prominent question hanging over the club is the future of Wenger. With his contract set to expire at the end of the season, an offer reportedly on the table and uncertainty engulfing every debate and argument between fans, media members and analysts, there is still yet no answer from either Wenger or the club stating whether he will indeed remain or leave.

Perhaps the most concerning aspect of uncertainty is the delaying of crucial decisions that will have long-lasting and significant ramifications. With the summer transfer window on the horizon, the North London outfit have a great deal of pressure on them to improve the playing squad, to enforce the infrastructure of the club behind the scenes and to begin building towards the future, with or without Wenger.

That is why the supposed impending addition of Sead Kolasinac is so peculiar. It has, in recent weeks, been reported that Arsenal are set to sign Kolasinac when his contract expires at the end of the season from Schalke. What is confusing about the revelation is the unanswerable question of who, if the reports are indeed true, is making the decision to pursue Kolasinac.

Well, per a report from the Daily Mail, Kolasinac has been told that Wenger is set to stay with the club beyond the summer. Such a rumour does certainly seem true. It is difficult to envisage how the Gunners would make such an important transfer decision without the drive of Wenger, which would not be there if he was indeed intending to leave.

Whether Kolasinac will be an astute addition remains to be seen. He certainly has the natural talent and the athletic gifts to excel in the Premier League. But what can be gleaned from his reported signing, is that, like it or not, Wenger is set to stay.
