Mauro Icardi

Arsenal need a new striker. That’s a statement that Arsenal fans have become far too familiar to over the last few seasons. Whilst there are many possibilities, Mauro Icardi is the striker that I’d be eyeing during the summer.

Romelu Lukaku is the dream, but the likelihood is that one of the financial powerhouses will sway him in their direction. Andrea Belotti is certainly worth consideration here, and I’d prefer the Italian to Alexandre Lacazette, who I don’t think his diminutive frame suits that of a Premier League striker.

Arsenal were heavily linked with Icardi last summer, there were even rumours that his wife had met Arsene Wenger in London to discuss a transfer. Nothing came of it, but after a season where Inter have gone through two managers and are likely to finish outside European qualification spots, Icardi could be persuaded to leave the San Siro.

His Argentinian passion would be much welcomed at the Emirates, and it could permanently relegate Olivier Giroud to a bench role, to which he is much more suited anyway.

The possible departure of both Ozil and Sanchez could lead Arsenal toward a more youthful XI, and whilst this one is full of young talents, it also possesses a nice blend of experience. I truly believe that the 3-back is here to stay, but there are options aplenty when it comes to improving this side.
