Arsenal: Potential 2017/18 starting XI without Mesut Ozil or Alexis Sanchez
By Henry Payne
Laurent Koscielny
A stereotypical Arsene Wenger signing – French, unknown – from Ligue 2 side Lorient FC in 2010, there were plenty of questions regarding Koscielny’s abilities and whether or not he would develop into a starting-caliber player. Nowadays, the advancement that Koscielny is the best centre-back in the Premier League is not an over-exaggeration. His presence in the Arsenal back line is essential, again, see Bayern Munich.

Speaking of German giants, whilst Per Mertesacker is officially club captain, Koscielny has been wearing the armband in his absence. The pair had a couple of solid seasons as a centre-back partnership, but times have changed.
If I was at the helm of Arsenal Football Club, I would sell Per Mertesacker. Despite his leadership qualities, I have made my opinion regarding his presence very clear. Gabriel is another individual who I would send packing.
With regards to Koscielny, whilst he still has his incredible pace and his uncanny ability to intercept passes, he will still be a premier defender. A replacement may need to be scouted to replace him in the near future, but as of now, he is a key figure and the rock in this defence.
