Alexis Sanchez has stated that his future will not be decided until the end of the season amid reports that he will not stay if Arsenal miss out on Champions League. He is edging closer to a disastrous precipice.

It is a vital upcoming summer transfer window for Arsenal. With every decision, every signing and every departure, every tactical change and personnel alteration hanging under the uncertainty of the Arsene Wenger’s future, there are many many pivotal choices to make that will have significant and long-lasting ramifications.

Other than Wenger and his future, perhaps the most prominent and influential issues that must be settled are the futures of both Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil. Their increasing frustration, delaying of contract negotiations and apparent unhappiness with some teammates all point towards an impending exit this summer with just one year remaining on their contracts.

And now Sanchez has only enforced the thought that he could well leave the Emirates at the end of the year. When asked about whether he could reveal any information, Sanchez stated he cannot publicly declare any information now and that it will be decided at the end of the season:

"“I cannot tell you now (about my future). We have to wait until the end of the season. As I always say, it doesn’t depend on me. It depends on the club. What they like, what they don’t like. I always said the same: I try to do my best, to support the team, to score goals, to win victories. And we will see at the end. If they like that I carry on, or they don’t. Whatever they want, we will see it at the end of the tournament.”"

They are troubling comments to hear. Sanchez has repeatedly delayed talks with the club, hinting that he is not all that happy with life in North London. Moreover, amid reports that he will try and force a move away if Arsenal are not able to secure a Champions League place on the final day of the season, then it is an even more concerning scenario.

And that is especially worrying for the club. In recent weeks, Sanchez, although a little inconsistent when in possession, giving the ball away far too often for a player of his calibre, has proven his importance to the side, repeatedly producing moments of brilliance to unlock stubborn and resilient defences.
