Arsenal superstar Alexis Sanchez is reportedly at odds with his club, but his recent statements show that he has boldly gone where no one expected.

In case you haven’t noticed, fan protests are at an all time high for Arsenal. Against Sunderland in particular, it seemed like a third of the stadium was empty. It’s all in the name of showing Arsene Wenger that what he has done isn’t good enough, and that people want change.

It could be seen as fans siding with Alexis Sanchez, who wants trophies, wants titles, and wants change at the club. While Wenger keeps putting off announcing his future plans, Alexis is doing the same.

And if you are one who believes in the countless rumors that the papers put out there, Alexis wants out of the club because of the things Wenger has cultivated – the lethargy, the complacency, the lack of trophies.

Which is why it is probably quite shocking for fans to see what Alexis Sanchez thinks of the protests. But here are his words, as quoted by the Mirror:

"For me, it (fan demonstrations) is very bad. He is the manager who gave a stadium to the club, won cups, and he has been 21 years in the job. He is the creator of the stadium, the players and style of the club."

That’s bold. Very bold. And not only is it bold, it’s actually pretty shocking. It seems like he is almost mirroring Alex Iwobi‘s words, although he didn’t take that extra (and ill-advised) step and call the fans impatient.

More from Pain in the Arsenal

But I thoroughly respect what the Chilean has done here, especially at a time when his future is so hotly contested. He is standing up for the reason he came to Arsenal, for the man who helped him fall in love with the club. Wenger is a legend, one way or another, and no matter how many frustrations Alexis has with the club, nothing will change that.

I wonder what kind of reaction this will bring about. So many fans backed Alexis’s exit on the ground that he deserves better, but here comes Alexis, saying that he stands with the manager to so many fans don’t. So what gives?

Alexis hasn’t made his future clear, but standing by Wenger is a huge indication that the belief in this club is high, they just happened to fall short again. I think we will be surprised by how many crucial pieces of this new 3-4-3 stay this summer. As in, they will all stay. That includes Alexis Sanchez.

I also don’t think that reeks of a lack of creativity or an unwillingness to change. I’m still a bit hesitant to say that this Arsenal squad has changed because of the 3-4-3. We’ve all been fooled into believing in the change far too many times.

But I trust Alexis, and I think the fans do too. If he stands by the manager, shouldn’t we?
