Arsenal’s fate is not in their own hands, but it is partially in the hands of one Gunner in particular. Whatever happens, Calum Chambers is getting impacted big time.

Arsenal’s first step is to take care of business against Everton as convincingly as possible. The more goals the merrier. Maybe if they score enough, they can start thinking about overturning Manchester City.

But in the meantime, they will be banking on Middlesbrough to hold Liverpool scoreless. Because the likelihood that Boro can score is slim to none. A nil-nil draw is the most hopeful situation, as well as the most believable.

Which means that right in the middle of Arsenal’s hopes, the hopes outside of their control, stands Calum Chambers.

Chambers has been Boro’s top player this year. He has been integral in whatever hopes they have had ans has proven to be a huge talent.

More from Pain in the Arsenal

Boro manager Steve Agnew had nothing but good things to say about the loanee.

"He’s an Arsenal player and he might have a few texts come through from his team-mates there and they will all be supportive. I’m sure they’ll discuss it in the dressing room. Calum will be doing his very best to put on a top performance for us, he’s been top class this season."

You can’t make light of how crucial this day is going to be for Calum Chambers. No matter what happens, it is safe to say that he will never be the same. He has to feel a lot of pressure, a lot of responsibility, as he lines up hoping to secure Champions League football for the club he will be returning to next year.

Let’s say that Chambers has a fantastic match and a 0-0 draw is accomplished. He will return to Arsenal as complete and utter hero. He will be more enthused than ever to make a difference and make his way in the footsteps of Rob Holding.

Let’s say that Liverpool step up and deliver a comprehensive win and Calum Chambers is pretty ineffective. Then Chambers will return determined to make up for what he and his side were unable to do while he was on loan.
