Arsenal: Kylian Mbappe bubble bursting?
Emmanuel Petit has stated that Arsenal have no chance of signing Kylian Mbappe. While he is right, does that mean the bubble is bursting for the Gunners?
The summer transfer window is very nearly upon us and the hopes, dreams and aspirations of fans are beginning to surface. For some it is a vast spending spree, for others it is simply keeping hold of the star players already in the squad. Ask every Arsenal fan, and you will likely get a different answer every time.

My dream is Kylian Mbappe. The 18-year-old broke onto world stage over the past six months with a string of sensational displays for Monaco, both in Ligue 1 and in the Champions League. However, while he may be my dream for the Gunners, he is also the dream for many other clubs across the continent.

And that is why any move is highly unlikely. Or at least that is the view of Emmanuel Petit. When asked about the possible transfer activity of his former club, Petit stated that he did not expect them to make a splash by signing Mbappe given the cost of the transfer and the competition to secure his signature:
"“Mbappe will never come to Arsenal as he will cost at least €100million and you have to break the salary cap and I don’t see Arsenal doing that! Real Madrid and Barcelona are also interested so it’s impossible he goes to Arsenal. I think Mbappe will stay for one more season [at Monaco] as the World Cup is coming. This season he’s been brilliant but he’s still young. If you hear what he and his family say, he’s very happy at Monaco.”"
And that is also my perspective also. Although he is who I want the club to sign, I would never expect it to be a transfer that could be completed. So does that mean that the Mbappe bubble has burst or is it more the case that the bubble never existed in the first place?
Wenger has, strangely and uncharacteristically enough, stated that he would like to sign Mbappe this summer. He did, though, also temper his comments significantly by stating that he feels he will be priced out of the market because of other possible suitors. And I feel that is where most fans stand with Mbappe, including myself.

It would be wonderful for it to happen but it is simply too unlikely to ever hope for it to take place. He is undoubtedly a wonderfully gifted player at such a tender age, but seeing him at the Emirates is probably a long way away.
