Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger told everyone that after the FA Cup he would announce his future plans, so his actual response was perfect.

Everyone was waiting for the FA Cup final against Chelsea. It gave Arsenal an excellent chance to judge their progress with the 3-4-3, which has seen them find brand new success in a falter, old system.

But that wasn’t the only perk of the final. Everyone was waiting for the Gunners age-old boss Arsene Wenger to finally lay down the facts about what the plan for his future. As in, is he staying for a grand hurrah of two more years or is he going to go out on top (or bottom, had the result not turned out so favorably).

Given the results of the match, and how much the Gunners manned up and stood up to the bullies of the Premier League in stunning fashion, there may be more open minds towards a prolonged Wenger stay (maybe not… but maybe).

Following the smashing result, Wenger was put to the question – what was his decision?

The response he gave was perfect – “Let me enjoy the day. I’ll get back to you.”

I could not have been any more thrilled with his response. Any other answer, any hint or anything would have taken away from the day that Arsenal accomplished. And Wenger knew that. He is way too much class for that. Way more into the club than he is into himself.

More from Pain in the Arsenal

This was a day of celebration for Arsenal, and there is nothing wrong with the entirety of the club enjoying it, even Arsene Wenger. This isn’t him treating the position lightly. It’s nothing like that. And there is a case to be made that it shouldn’t have even come this far for him to get near a decision, but a man who has done as much as Wenger has for the club deserves to decide how he takes his exit.

And when you see him spin some magic like he did for this match against, it should serve as a reminder.

There is a board meeting Wednesday that will determine Wenger’s fate. We will know by the end of the week what is going to happen. That is exciting, but it should also be nervy. The grass always looks greener on the other side. The problem is you don’t always see the grass before you commit to it.

And quite honestly, I’d rather let Wenger pick his successor on his own way out than have our inept board let Wenger go and try to pick someone.
