Arsenal are reportedly dumping money on Kylian Mbappe, which would mean that nothing else really matters, and to think it came so soon.

It’s always a fun ritual to go into a summer transfer window and line up what Arsenal needs. Last summer, we went in thinking we needed a deep midfielder, a defender and a striker. For the first time in years, Arsene Wenger addressed all three and then some. He also landed a young striker and a young (and now first-team) defender.

This summer, there are three things I have on my list, but mainly just two, with a side, ‘if we want to’ kind of thing. We need a prolific, dynamic, ‘make everyone else obsolete’ striker, we need a left wing back and we may want another midfielder.

With Sead Kolasinac supposedly coming over on a free, that meant that one need was already taken care of before we even started spending money. That’s one hell of a boost.

If Kylian Mbappe can be acquired for this massive, record-shattering transfer fee, then cancel the summer, we don’t need it. Let’s just jump right into the 2017/18 season and win everything. It’s that simple right?

My point is that once and for all (or at least a decade or so), Wenger would truly address the issue and have every issue solved. When is the last time that happened?

More from Pain in the Arsenal

I reference last summer a time when Wenger addressed all the problems, but he didn’t allow one of the problems to be fixed by his chosen solution. I am of course speaking of Lucas Perez, who was given the shaft before he could even stretch his legs.

So even with all the other solutions that have now proven to be definite solutions, we still lacked that dynamic striker capable of A) creating for himself B) keeping pace with Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez and C) capable of putting the damn ball in the back of the net, leaving no room for doubt.

Mbappe solves it. He is that final piece to the jigsaw puzzle and, conveniently, given his age, he could last a damn long time, given the right successes at the club. Unless he pulls an Anelka. We need to make sure he has a ‘no Anelka-ing’ clause in his contract.

While nothing is certain and we can only hope for the best, at the very least, this sets the table for a very important summer.
