If all rumours were to be correct, the future of Arsenal football is very bright indeed. On Thursday night, per a report from L’Equipe, Monaco received a £87 million offer for Kylian Mbappe from the Gunners. And then on Friday morning,, it was revealed that Mesut Ozil is ready to sign a new contract after compromising on his wages thanks to a lack of interest elsewhere.

Now, as a mere blogger and writer, I have no clue whether such reports are based on hard fact or conjecture and conflation of the truth. I suspect it is likely somewhere between the two. From reading between the lines, given the number of sources that have since confirmed the offer, it is likely that Arsenal did indeed make such a substantial offer for Mbappe.

However, I am less confident regarding the report suggesting that Ozil is ready to sign a new contact. That does not mean it is not true, simply, I am not convinced. But, for the purposes of this piece, I am going to delve into the realms of optimism and imagine, just for a second, if Mbappe does indeed move to North London and Ozil also signs a new contract.

It would be a wonderful scenario. For the first time in his four years at the Emirates, Ozil would have a striker of world class calibre to partner, while Mbappe, at just 18 years of age, would be leading the line ahead of one of the most creative, ingenious attacking midfielders in world football. It is a match made in heaven.

Throughout his career, Ozil has excelled when playing at the heart of teams bursting with speed. His incisive brain ticking over, his immaculate decision making and then technical skill to execute such precise and cutting passes help unravel opposing defences when he has pace and movement around him.

Mbappe is certainly a player that could provide that. While his direct and dangerous on the ball, he is at his most threatening with his back to the play, spinning in behind opposing defences and stretching the channels. It is those type of runs that Ozil thrives on.

Mbappe and Ozil, as a partnership, would be truly scintillating to watch. But, seeing as this is Arsenal, the chances of witnessing such glorious football seem slim. They could be shining stars together, but that will likely have to reside within dreams, not reality.
