Arsenal made headlines with their supposedly massive bid for Kylian Mbappe, and the longer nothing is said, the more hopeful we should get.

Everyone has been pelting the news waves with fresh takes on the supposed Kylian Mbappe bid by Arsenal. According to initial reports, Arsene Wenger launched an unbelievable £87m bid for the young French wonderteen.

Within hours, reports emerged that the offer had been wholly rejected, but those reports are still filtering in and didn’t hit as quickly or conclusively as reports of the bid in the first place. Not long after it emerged that AS Monaco refused to comment on the reported bid when contacted by the always-reputable SkySports.

This stands much stronger and truer than the immediate, scattered reports that it was rejected. And in that regard, it is a very good sign. We hear all the time that rumored bids are dismissed by clubs, or by Wenger himself, but to have Monaco refusing to comment could give us a peak into the future.

At the very least, assuming this is all true, it would tell us that there is some contemplation involved that the club doesn’t want to disclose just yet. Like cracking the door open ever so slightly and letting the light in. If they are at the very least thinking about it, then we know that perhaps a bigger bid may do the trick. Or, and stop me if I’m getting crazy, that negotiations are underway.

An immediate rejection would be the worst possible thing. It shows no interest, no contemplation, nothing. It says ‘go away, this is rubbish, and don’t come back.’

The less we hear, the better. Or, I should say, the less concrete stuff we hear, the better. Until this is formally addressed by either or both clubs, there will be headlines flying around like crazy. But when the reports are as scattered as the “immediate rejection” reports were, it’s hard to buy into them.

On the contrary, the reports of the bid were numerous and widespread, making them a bit more credible. So credible, that they have to be addressed by the clubs involved. Hence why SkySports contacted Monaco.

Keep rooting for no news. The transfer window is even open yet, so until it is, we probably won’t know much more.
