Alex Iwobi has stated that he believes Arsene Wenger can still win a Premier League title with Arsenal. However, such words mean nothing without action.

The Premier League title. It used to be meat and drink for a side bursting with quality. But not since the days of Invincibles has Arsene Wenger hoisted aloft the trophy that heralded his Arsenal team as the best in the country.

And it is an increasingly elusive trophy. There were 18 points between Arsenal and league leaders Chelsea. But, in all honesty, their chances of winning the league faltered all the way back in February after a 3-1 dismantling at the hands of the eventual champions.

But with Wenger signing a new two-year contract, the chase for the title is set to endure for the time being. Alex Iwobi is one who still believes that his manager has the ability to guide the Gunners back to the top of the tree. In the aftermath of Wenger’s contract extension, Iwobi stated that he is backing Wenger to win another league title:

"“I’m backing Arsene Wenger to win the league title at Arsenal again. There won’t be a single player in our dressing room next season who will not fight for him. We’d run through brick walls for the boss. Unfortunately, he has not tasted a Premier League title since 2004, but look what he has achieved in his time here. Even last weekend, he became the manager who has won the FA Cup seven times — more than any other.”"

While it is undoubtedly a nice sentiment, one that all fans can get on board with thanks to the work that Wenger achieved earlier in his tenure, it is one that is difficult to accept as Gospel without any actions supporting it. Currently, the squad, the investment, the stature of the club are all falling short of providing the foundation to make a sustained and genuine run at a title.

That does not mean that a title is beyond reach. This is a defining summer, one in which progress and development can be accelerated greatly with some astute and significant investment in the playing squad, the coaching staff and the board structure.

But it would be naive to predict such change without first seeing signs that it could yet come to fruition. It is difficult to agree with Iwobi without Wenger acting in a way that indicates a Premier League title is within reach. Before that point, it seems a little naive, a little rehearsed, a little like PR and conjecture, rather than sincere opinion.
