Arsenal nation is sitting by, waiting to hear what is going to happen with Alexis Sanchez, but his latest statements are nothing to panic about.

Arsenal’s biggest story this summer was always going to be Alexis Sanchez. The prolific Chilean, who has become the very heartbeat of the club, has only 12 months left on his contract so, unless he is leaving for free next year, everything comes down to this summer and locking him down for longer.

As such, any little bit of information is crucial. The problem there is that any time he says anything, it is going to get blown out of proportion by every news outlet out there. It will be hyper-analyzed ad nauseum until no one even remembers what he said in the first place.

So before I get any further, this is exactly what Alexis Sanchez said:

"I’m looking at what my agent is doing. For now, I’m focused on the Confederations Cup in Russia and trying to do well. The truth is that my agent will see to it. He knows and he will sit down with the club to look for the best option for me. I’d like a lot of things but I’m only thinking about the national team."

Naturally, that is going to get misconstrued and misinterpreted all over the place. Why? Because he was not definitive. He left a lot of room for interpretation.

Without reading into this and trying to divulge the true meaning behind it, let’s look at what Alexis actually said. Because when you get down to basics, he said every little, if anything. All he said was that it is in his agent’s hands. His agent knows what he wants and that is that.

More from Pain in the Arsenal

Doomsday prophets are going to say this means that he is leaving, but it just isn’t that devious of a statement. If Alexis wanted to leave, wouldn’t that be obvious by now? He has never, ever, in his history as a Gunner, shown any interest in leaving. Which brings me to my main point. When Alexis says it’s in his agents hands and his agent knows what he wants, the best thing we can do is look at what we know for a fact that the Chilean wants.

And the only thing we know he wants for sure is for the club to invest in him. To give him a fatter contract with more money. These are the words out of his own mouth.

From developments leading up to this point, that appears the be the hold-up, because the board has come out, shooting down claims that Alexis and Mesut Ozil would be getting massive, modern raises.

That is what Alexis wants. And if he can’t get that, well, that’s when we start talking about his exit. But right now, with the summer under way and the action waiting to be had, all we know for sure is that Alexis wants a better contract.
