Arsenal and Wojciech Szczesny: Have they lost their minds?
Gianluigi Buffon has seemingly confirmed that Juventus are on the verge of signing Wojciech Szczesny. Have Arsenal lost their minds?
Arsenal’s goalkeeping situation is seemingly spiralling out of control. As soon as Arsene Wenger took the plunge and signed Petr Cech in the summer of 2015, it was always going to be a difficult situation to handle. Three goalkeepers who are of starting quality. Only one position.

Cech was obviously the entrenched number one. That meant that Wenger had to make a difficult decision. He duly loaned out Wojciech Szczesny for two successive seasons, both times to Roma, with the Pole impressing at the Serie A giants.

Now that he has returned, however, rumours have suggested that he is trying to force an exit, and that Wenger is happy to let him go, for the right price. The one club that has been most heavily linked with a move is Juventus, who are looking for a long-term replacement for stalwart Gianluigi Buffon.
And it is Buffon who has seemingly confirmed Juventus’ interest in Szczesny. When asked about his playing prospects as his career draws to a close, Buffon stated:
"“This could be the last year and I would like to be a protagonist, as I have always dreamed of being. To do that, I have to be important. I will work for this next year. I’ve always been a rational person and I’ve always looked for the meaning of things. It’s right that Juve want Szczesny and that there is a good player like [18-year-old AC Milan goalkeeper Gianluigi] Donnarumma at the national team.”"
It is, then, sensible to assume that Szczesny’s impending departure is imminent. If so, that leads me to ask one, very simple question: Have Arsenal lost their minds?
Szczesny, of the three senior goalkeepers in the squad, is the one with the brightest future. He is a more physical, more accomplished, more talented goalkeeper than David Ospina, and is eight years yhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XY8uu2kj1vEounger than Cech who likely has only one or two more years of his best form left.
Szczesny is the perfect, long-term option for Arsenal, very much in the same way that Juventus view him as their heir-apparent for Buffon. He is experienced at the highest level, has played extensively in the Premier League, across Europe and on the international stage, and has the physical stature to handle the demands of English football.
