Arsenal has added some new names to their team, but in the backroom portion. One of these names is here specifically to sort out the Alexis, Ozil situation.

All in all, this summer is starting out quite well. I know that I, among many others, can sit here talking about how we are letting precious options pass us by, but there will always be more players and, as it stands, Arsenal is in good shape.

Such good shape, in fact, that Arsene Wenger is more determined to keep the current roster the way it is than anything else. The Gunners have made two personnel additions in the past week, one being the fitness “genius” who served Liverpool from 2010-2013 and the other, an intriguing addition, is a legal expert brought in to solve the Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil contract situations.

Huss Fahmy, who will work with contract negotiator Dick Law as well as well as Ivan Gazidis, who, as the Sun points out, may well be living up to his promise to change things at Arsenal this summer. If of course by change he meant not selling off key assets. Which, sadly, does qualify as change.

The way this is being spun, Fahmy is here specifically to work on the contracts of Alexis and Ozil, while also working on the contracts of the rest of the Gunners. But first things first, the two superstars need deals.

More from Pain in the Arsenal

I don’t think I have seen a team fight so hard for their players. Here they are, going out and bringing in contract experts just to ensure that they get new deals. That is something kind of special, but also kind of unique. Most teams just pay up or sell. It looks like a painless process to them, but if the Gunners really are committed to not overpaying, even for players such as these, then this is the next best thing.

At the very least, this is a milestone of progress. We know that the team is working on locking them down and frankly, that is kind of reassuring given the contractual silence we have heard thus far into the summer.

And of course, hopefully this means that these two (and more) can continue their stay in North London. If this is the turning point that leads to them staying, then Ivan Gazidis may be proving his worth after years of having it questioned by everyone. Including me.
