Arsenal: Aaron Ramsey needs to show another direction
By Josh Sippie
Arsenal are not making a lot of progress with their contract negotiations, but maybe Aaron Ramsey can kickstart something, somehow.
In case you haven’t been paying attention this summer, you haven’t missed much. At least not in terms of contract negotiations. While Arsenal appeared to be nearing deals for both Mesut Ozil and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, the talks with the former went quiet and the talks with the latter led to frustration at lack of progress.

Now the Gunners are turning to a new fresh start with Aaron Ramsey. According to reports, a deal is near being solidified that would see the Welshman re-up his contract, which expires in 2019, while seeing his wages jump up to where Mesut Ozil currently is.
Hard to decline something like that.
But the problem is that we’ve been here before, and in much more pertinent situations. As mentioned, both Ozil and the Ox reached this level of their talks before something stalled, got in the way, interrupted, or whatever the hell happened.
These talks with Ramsey need to go in a different direction. They need to go quickly, conclusively and, quite frankly, I don’t give a damn what the terms are, just ink someone to a new deal. If nothing else, this gives us a head start on the 2019 contract crew, which, given how poorly the 2018 crew is going, is nothing to look forward to.

If Ramsey can ink a new deal, it would be the first official contract since the club brought in legal help to solidify the fine print of these contracts. Huss Fahmy joined the club’s legal team to fix problems the likes of which we have seen this summer – the inability to get contracts signed.
To break through with Ramsey would show that this new direction worked and it would give a bit of hope when revisiting these deals that appeared so close to being done. While Alexis Sanchez is still likely a ways off, Ozil and the Ox locking in would be a huge statement that Arsenal is sticking together, despite finishing lower than they have in two decades.
Ramsey still has a big part to play with this club. He re`ally came into his own with the 3-4-2-1, which more closely resembles the 3-5-2 that his Welsh national team uses and it’s easy to see what the man requires to be successful – freedom. That’s it.

If he can stay healthy, Super Rambo will be back in the saddle for the upcoming season. Saddling up like he did in 2013/14 while having just signed a brand new deal would be quite the lift.
