Physicality is the one thing that Alexandre Lacazette lacks, and while Olivier Giroud has his downfalls at Arsenal, physicality certainly isn’t one of them.

According to Sky Sports News, Arsenal are in advanced talks to sign Olympique Lyonnais striker Alexandre Lacazette at long last. The Frenchman seemed destined to join Atletico Madrid earlier in the summer until their transfer embargo was upheld by FIFA, prohibiting them from registering new players until January next year.

More from Pain in the Arsenal

If you look at the Premier League’s most prolific strikers in recent years, a trend becomes apparent. Romelu Lukaku, Harry Kane, Diego Costa and Zlatan Ibrahimovic are all physically imposing strikers.

Nowadays, most Premier League clubs deem it necessary to play with a powerful striker, as they only have room for one in their formations.

Sergio Aguero is the anomaly, but his movement and footballing brain makes him arguably the best out-and-out striker in the world.

I truly believe that Alexandre Lacazette would be a fantastic signing for the Gunners. His technique, composure, mobility and defensive work are all fantastic. His goal scoring record also speaks for itself, however, physicality and aerial duels are a huge part of the English game and when you’re only 5″ 9′, you’re going to struggle in these facets.

Olivier Giroud certainly has his downfalls, but his strengths are clear for all to see. His link up play and physical prowess give the Gunners another dimension in attack, and that is why even if the Gunners manage to bring in Lacazette, Mbappe or whoever, they must keep Olivier Giroud.

Giroud has been linked with West Ham in recent weeks, but if Wenger can persuade him to stay, they would have the best ‘Plan B’ in the Premier League.

The Gunners will not win the Premier League with Olivier Giroud and Danny Welbeck as their strikers, but add Alexandre Lacazette into the fold and they have a legitimate chance.
