Arsenal may be on the lookout for a striker, but desperation mode is not needed. Sergio Aguero for Alexis Sanchez is a desperation move.

Arsenal need a striker, that much is established. And while only Alexandre Lacazette has been touted as a solution, there are other options out there, believe it or not.

One such option is the emerging possibility that Sergio Aguero could be on the move. With the emergence of Gabriel Jesus and the unpredictability of Pep Guardiola, Aguero is probably better off plying his trade elsewhere.

Coming to Arsenal seems like a far off proposition that’s closer to impossible than anything else, but it doesn’t have to be. A swap move, sending the Argentine to Arsenal in exchange for Alexis Sanchez, has been proposed as one possible method to bring the esteemed striker to the Emirates, but such a move makes very little sense, if any at all.

I spoke earlier today about how selling Olivier Giroud in an effort to land Alexandre Lacazette would be a sign of pure desperation. There is far too much unnecessary risk involved there to justify the move. Far too much is lost with not enough guaranteed in return.

The same goes for this move, although perhaps not as drastic.

More from Pain in the Arsenal

Losing Alexis is not something that can be easily fixed. His ability to be a catch-all attacking solution cannot be replicated by many. Certainly not for Aguero. What we would be doing here is ditching an all-purpose attacker and landing a striker. We’d solve one problem while creating another.

And there just isn’t any need for that. Especially when Alexandre Lacazette’s price has been named and there is nothing in the way of him becoming a Gunner. Lyon have their replacement and it’s just a matter of time.

It makes much more sense from a team standpoint to stick with that rather than throwing caution to the wind and trading with a team we will have to face at least twice a year.

The only reason why this move would be acceptable is if Alexis is resigned to leave for City anyway. If that is the case, then sure, work it into a swap deal and let us get something in return other than money that we will probably never seen utilized. But until that situation comes to pass, let’s just stick with the secure purchases that answer the needs without providing any additional questions.
