Arsenal: Sergio Aguero rumours reaching new level of idiocy
Former Liverpool player Steve Nicol has stated that Sergio Aguero to Arsenal could happen. The rumours engulfing the Manchester City striker are reaching a new level of idiocy.
The transfer rumour mill is indeed whirring. As Arsenal and their fans have, rather painfully in the past, discovered that, in naive and helpless optimism, if you fall for what the Sun says, taking it as Gospel, then you set yourself up for a rather dastardly fall.

And like every other year, the Gunners are again being linked with a plethora of players that they simply aren’t going to sign. The latest is Sergio Aguero.

The unwanted Manchester City striker, who has been usurped by Gabriel Jesus, with Pep Guardiola wanting a more dynamic, high-pressing striker, has been rumoured as a possible target in a swap deal for Alexis Sanchez. And the media are beginning to sharpen their tongues and raise their voices, shouting from the rooftops about how wonderful a move it would be:
"“I don’t think he wants to stay at City if Gabriel Jesus is going to play ahead of him. At the same time, he’s a world class striker. There are some big teams out there who I believe would want him. So if he wants to move maybe Arsenal is his best choice at the moment. Is it possible? Yes it is. It’s up to the two sides to get together and I don’t see why Wenger wouldn’t want it, I don’t see why Pep wouldn’t want it. So really, it comes down to finance.”"
That statement comes from former Liverpool defender Steve Nicol. A lot of what he says is a valid assessment: Aguero likely wants to leave, his options are not exactly and Arsenal would be a viable destination.
But it is his last statement that is utterly ridiculous. To suggest that the move solely comes down to finance is ridiculous. Firstly, Arsene Wenger’s reputation highlights an avoidance of the big-name Premier League stars. Secondly, Guardiola, while willing to sell, would not want to see Aguero at a domestic rival. And finally, would Aguero be willing to drop out of the Champions League?
This is a far from a simple transfer, even without the added complication of Sanchez moving the other way. Throw the Chilean into the mix, and suddenly, there are a lot of moving parts that must all fit together for the move to even begin being considered.

The Gunners will spend money this summer. But, however exciting it would be, they will not be spending it on Aguero.
