Ivan Gazidis spoke at length about Arsenal’s season and, in the process, called for unity. Admirable, but it can also be achieved through investment.

It was the worst Arsenal season in two decades, yet it ended on a high note and we got a nice glimpse into the future that is coming. You could feasibly say that a bit of patience may make all the difference with supporters, but that is where the opinions split.

Asking an Arsenal fan to be patient is like asking them to sell their first born child to a cannibal tribe. Just don’t do it. Alex Iwobi made that mistake and was ripped a new one. We have had patience, we have waited and waited and watched as small pieces of the complete puzzle were excluded and the Gunner fell painfully short.

That patience has gotten us farther and farther from the title. Last year was a resurgence of hope, only for it to fall flat on its face this year.

So Ivan Gazidis wants a “united front” of support from Gooners. That’s an admirable thing to call for and perfectly reasonable. But you can’t just expect it to be given because you ask for it. A simple investment is all that is required.

And yes, Sead Kolasinac is a fantastic start, Gazidis is right about that. Thus far into the summer, the Gunners have been going crazy in search for the solution, whether that solution be Kylian Mbappe, Alexandre Lacazette, Thomas Lemar, or a combination of the three.

More from Pain in the Arsenal

But until a deal is done, it’s mere speculation. It’s bare fists against a wall thinking you can knock it down. Landing even one of those three players may well swing the majority of supporters into this optimism.

If you land two of them, then this united front is much more feasible. So what Gazidis is requesting shouldn’t be considered a request from the fans. It should be considered a personal objective for him and the board.

Give us the proof (a bit more proof) behind the words and a united front will be easy to come by. You can’t pull the wool over supporters eyes when it comes to quality. Eventually you are going to have to spend more than you’d like on proven products.
