Arsenal superstar Alexis Sanchez is hardly encouraging tortured Gooners over his future, hence the need to embrace replacing him with Thomas Lemar.

Arsenal remain in the dark as far as Alexis Sanchez‘s future is concerned, and with the Chilean’s recent statements regarding the same topic, the darkness is merely expanding. I hypothesized a way that Alexis inadvertently admitted that he was staying with his ambiguous statements, but even if he just stays for one more year, he could just leave for nothing next year.

As such, it’s time to start embracing the change that might be coming. Finding a replacement for Alexis Sanchez is not something we thought we would have to do. It’s frightening, honestly, and also a bit angering.

The Chilean has meant so much to us Gooners. He was the hero that we needed after so many years of struggling to compete. But now it’s time to wrap our heads around a future that doesn’t involve him. It’s usually best to prepare for the worst.

Which is a heck of a lot easier to do if we have someone like Thomas Lemar coming on in Alexis’s stead. Lemar has been a complete stud in Ligue 1. He scored 14 goals and assisted another 14 in his breakout year with Monaco and the best part is that he is only 21 years old. His creative instincts are well beyond his age and he may damn well prove to be a highly intelligent switch if his growth keeps on the same trajectory.

More from Pain in the Arsenal

Following in Alexis’s footsteps is not going to be easy. It’d be next to impossible. But the good thing about Lemar is that he would be coming into a team that already leans on Mesut Ozil and will soon lean on Alexandre Lacazette. Lemar wouldn’t have too much pressure to deal with.

Plus, if the situation plays out that Alexis stays for one more year and leaves on a free, then Lemar would have even less pressure and more time to ease into the role. And it would certainly help the passing of Alexis for free, which is almost unbearable to think about.

Arsenal had their £31m bid turned down by Monaco and speculation says that he may cost as much as Lacazette is going to. But for the umpteenth time, you can’t put a price on necessities. And covering for Alexis is a necessity if ever there was one.

It’s not ideal, having to cover for Alexis, but replacing him with a 21 year old Lemar is certainly at least worth some excitement.
