Arsenal has known that Alexandre Lacazette was a done deal, they’ve just had to wait for the official announcement, which has finally come.

Arsenal’s summer transfer plans took a very straightforward and easy-to-follow path. They addressed their need for a left back in rather stunningly quick fashion, locking up Sead Kolasinac for free before the transfer window even officially opened.

And then all the pricey rumors started to hit us. Kylian Mbappe, Alexandre Lacazette and Thomas Lemar all dominated the airwaves with bids being launched for all three. It was the most active I have ever seen Arsene Wenger so early in the transfer window. But even with that heavy spurt of activity, we all knew which of the three was actually going to happen.

It was always going to be Lacazette. The Lyon man has been on the Gunners radar for three years now, with failed bids coming in last year, bids that weren’t all that far off from the price that was finally agreed upon this summer.

However, all of that is moot at this point, because the deal is now done. With reports pouring in this week announcing Lacazette’s presence in North London to finalize his long-awaited move to North London followed by reports that he was completing his medical, we all just had to wait for the official announcement.  Which is never as easy as it seems.

It finally came, however (and Arsenal Twitter had so much fun playing with us), and with it, the reassurance that Wenger and Ivan Gazidis are serious (rather born out of desperation or not) about landing the necessary pieces to compete again.

Lacazette’s signing broke a club record for a fee worth around £50m at the start, with add-ons likely mixed in their. According to the newest reports, Lacazette will become the club’s top-earner at £200,000 a week on a huge five-year deal, which will mean that the stress that Alexis Sanchez is now putting us through will be a long ways off for Lacazette.

Lacazette has always felt destined for the Gunners and while it probably took a heck of a lot longer than it should have, at least he is here now, going into a season that sees the Gunners being woefully underrated. With a 20-30 goal man like Lacazette, whose to say he can’t fire his new club to new heights? Especially if he really was all that’s been missing these past few years.
