Despite the hype, this Alexandre Lacazette signing is not enough to boost Arsene Wenger and Arsenal’s chances for the new Premier League season

If the rumour mill is anything to go by (and it usually isn’t), Arsenal are about to make Alexandre Lacazette their latest acquisition for the forthcoming season, for a fee thought to be worth £44m.

Supporters of the club throughout the world will mark Lacazette’s arrival as a sign that Arsene Wenger has at long last, got it right.

This couldn’t be further from the truth, and if Gooners believe they’re going to see a wholly different attitude from the squad, and more important Le Boss, they’re going to be disappointed.

If anything, it’s more evidence that the “walking-on-hot-coals” manager is just as inept as ever.
This is a signing that should have been made last summer when we could’ve had Alexis Sanchez, Mesut Ozil, Olivier Giroud and Lacazette tearing apart the Premier League. This is a signing born from pressure.

Only the signature of Kylian Mbappe from Monaco would have me stirring from my summer of footballing hibernation.

But, with Wenger pretending to fight tooth and nail with Real Madrid for the highly rated 18-year-old, there’s more chance of seeing pigs fly than Mbappe in the red and white of Arsenal.

The Gunners link with Mbappe is a ploy by the club to sell season tickets; if the club were genuinely interested in pursuing Europe’s hottest property, at the very minimum, they’d have to bid more than their competitor.

The understanding is that the Arsenal board have been consistently bidding £5m less than Los Blancos.

I’m no Master of Finance (if that’s even a title), but why the board think that Monaco would be likely to accept a lower offer to part with their starlet, is anyone’s guess.

More from Pain in the Arsenal

Now back to reality.

The imminent arrival of Lacazette will spell the end of Alexis Sanchez’ time at the Emirates; the Chilean is desperate to get away from the “loser” culture that envelopes the north London club; it could also mean the end of Olivier Giroud.

To get rid of the Frenchman, who averages a goal every other game would be unforgivable and another Wenger error.

So despite the addition of Lacazette, nothing is new at the Emirates because Wenger knows best or thinks he does.

It will be the same tiki-taka style play, infuriating style of play; the same look of bewilderment as our clueless defence is exposed by an even-more-clueless midfield; the same insufferable tactics; the same questions asked.

This is why, before a ball has even been kicked, I will reignite the “Wenger Out” campaign. Somewhere along the way, the man who made the club great again, unearthing the likes of Theirry Henry, Nicolas Anelka, and Patrick Vieira, is now the man who is ruining the club.
