Alexis Sanchez’s Arsenal contract situation is not getting any better and it’s clear this can’t be put off any longer. The circus has to end.

Arsenal completing the long-awaited deal for Alexandre Lacazette lifted a lot of pressure off of the club. This guy is going to make a huge impact and he is actually excited to be here and play for the shirt that he will be wearing.

It’s got me feeling a lot better about the Alexis Sanchez situation. Mainly because I don’t feel like the club is as hog-tied by the Chilean as they once were.

Now, we don’t really know for sure what Alexis is demanding. The latest reports suggest that he is demanding an unheard-of £400,000 a week. Which, I don’t need to tell you, is incredibly stupid. But again, we don’t know for sure that that number is real.

Still, the point remains that Alexis is still out there making a bugger of himself, not signing a new contract and telling every news outlet that’ll put a microphone in his face that he doesn’t know what his future holds and that he isn’t sure if he will stay at Arsenal.

More from Pain in the Arsenal

Watching Lacazette look so damn happy in his new shirt and looking forward to a career at Arsenal, I’m less sympathetic to Alexis and I get now that this circus has to end. If we are going to sell Alexis, if that is what he wants, then just do it. I’d rather have that then to see him pouting on the pitch all season and then have him leave on a free.

That’s no way to build a good chemistry. I’d like to think that Alexis is beyond such childish behavior, but you just never know. He was pretty animated (negatively) last season too.

There are only two options for the club. Either get him to sign the deal you want him to sign or sell him. The Confederations Cup is over, his decision is supposedly already made in his mind, let’s just get it done so we can move on one way or another.

And besides, if we do sell Alexis for that £50m clip that Manchester City are supposedly willing to pay, then toss that in with the £30m that we wanted to pay in the first place and land Thomas Lemar.

Whatever the case, just get it done. The worst thing we can do is let Alexis be a leech on morale this year and then walk out of the club for free next summer like he’s been serving a four-year jail sentence.
