Arsenal: Dalbert links utterly nonsensical and likely untrue
Arsenal are continuing to be linked with a move for Nice full-back Dalbert. The rumours, though, are utterly nonsensical and likely lack any semblance of truth.
Arsene Wenger is extremely loyal to his players. Throughout his time at Arsenal, he has patiently waited for his players to fulfil the potential that he believes they have. Players like Abou Diaby, Jack Wilshere and Theo Walcott were all given ample time to recover from injury after injury because Wenger knew that they had the talent to flourish.

Because of this loyalty, he is often seen as hesitant and nervy in the transfer window. He does not want to sign players who will crowd out opportunities that he could give to players that he believes in who are already in the squad.

As such, it is often easy to weed out the ridiculous transfer rumours that most probably untrue. Given the desperation of Arsenal fans to latch onto any piece of transfer news that is remotely positive, media outlets often look to fabricate reports that take advantage of such helpless optimism. That is exactly what has happened with Nice full-back Dalbert.
Elements of the French media have claimed that Arsenal, along with Inter Milan and Manchester City, are interested in making a move for the pacy left-back. However, any signing is utterly nonsensical for the Gunners. Not only do they have Kieran Gibbs and Nacho Monreal already in the squad, but Wenger has committed resources to the position this summer, signing Sead Kolasinac on a free transfer.
The addition of Kolasinac, while not an especially significant or expensive one, would not have happened if Wenger did not feel that the Bosnian boasted the sufficient quality to fulfil the need at left-back.
Wenger only ever signs players who are, in his opinion, an improvement on what is already in the squad. Why then, after committing energy and resources into signing Kolasinac, would he immediately crowd out the position with another player?
Dalbert is a different player to Kolasinac. He is better in advanced positions, is slightly quicker, with the ability to surge past opposing defenders with ease, and has produced attacking returns. But that does not mean that Wenger will sign him to replace a player who he has just recruited.

The rumours are utterly nonsensical. They do not align with Wenger’s management style, they do not support the make-up of the squad and they are simply playing on the hopes and aspirations of fans. I have little reason to believe they are true. Don’t we just love transfer season, right?
