According to Gianluca Di Marzio, Arsenal have made a big offer for Nice left-back Dalbert. While certain questions may arise regarding the reasoning of this pursuit, it actually makes complete sense.

Arsenal have already signed Alexandre Lacazette and Sead Kolasinac this summer, and it seems that they are far from done.

Reports suggest that Thomas Lemar and Riyad Mahrez are transfer targets for Arsene Wenger, but besides them, a plethora of central midfielders have been mentioned in the back pages due to the uncertainty surrounding Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Santi Cazorla and Jack Wilshere. However, the possible signing of Dalbert or another wing-back shouldn’t necessarily come as a surprise to any fans.

As previously mentioned, Sead Kolasinac has already signed on the dotted line, but the future of Kieran Gibbs is unfortunately in question and Arsene Wenger has already stated that Nacho Monreal will make the transition to centre-back.

While Di Marzio also declared that Dalbert would prefer a move to Inter Milan, the thought of purchasing another flying wing-back is incredibly enticing. On the right-hand side, the Gunners will have Hector Bellerin and – hopefully – Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain competing for a starting place. Both men have blazing speed and stretch opposition defences. For all of Nacho Monreal’s qualities, he is not a player who will threaten to beat players down the line and stretch defences.

Sead Kolasinac will be running up that left-hand side all day, and bringing in someone with similar qualities is not a bad idea whatsoever.
