Arsenal: Monaco should inspire Olivier Giroud transfer stance
By Josh Sippie
Arsenal are still fending off extreme interest in Olivier Giroud, but they need to take a Monaco approach and forward all requests to voicemail.
Arsenal has had a pretty simple journey in the transfer window thus far, as they landed both Sead Kolasinac and even Alexandre Lacazette without much struggle at all. Lacazette took a bit longer, but with determination came the fact that we already knew – all the Gunners had to do is pay for Lacazette and they could have him.

Securing our third and final target has not been so easy, as Thomas Lemar is being strongly fortified by Monaco, who are insistent that they do not want to sell. And honestly, why should they? They’ve already lost a chunk of players, they don’t need the money and they were stalwarts last year, with higher hopes this coming year.
But as it is Ligue 1, and as they are dedicated to playing young players, chances are, they will inevitably sell in the end.
However, that hard-lined stance of not selling when they don’t stand to benefit from the sale is exactly what the Gunners should be aspiring to with Olivier Giroud. The big Frenchman is the apple of both Everton’s and Marseille’s eye, as they flirt with the idea of paying the full rumored price of £30m for the guy.

That’s a lot of money for a 30 year old striker. But guess what? It isn’t enough money. Only Harry Kane scored more frequently than Giroud last season and with the striker inconsistencies the Gunners have had in recent years, selling one of their seasoned veterans at the position makes no sense.
Arsenal simply have nothing to gain from selling the big man. They don’t need the money, that isn’t exactly enough to do much with in the modern market place anyway. They don’t need to thin the ranks up front and if they do, it’ll be Lucas Perez that goes. There’s nothing to gain.
And so long as their is nothing to gain, the only thing we’d be doing by selling Giroud is helping another team out. Which, if we sold to Everton, would inevitably hurt us. Which is silly.
There should be no asking price for Giroud. Unless someone comes banging on the door ready to massively overpay for the guy, then there’s no need to listen to offers. And even then, he would then have to be replaced and quite frankly, I don’t see many strikers out there capable of doing what Giroud does.
