Arsenal have been incredibly active in the earlier parts of the transfer window, meaning that once Thomas Lemar is secured, it’s cruise control.

Arsenal have had this nasty habit of waiting until the last minute to secure dire needs. Last summer they waited pretty late to snap up Shkodran Mustafi and Lucas Perez and two summers before that, Danny Welbeck was landed in September.

It can be pretty stressful when you’re staring at the team, knowing exactly what they need and they aren’t getting it.

This summer has been the complete opposite, with just about all their needs wrapped up and we are just over a week into the transfer window. Sead Kolasinac was secured in June and Alexandre Lacazette was made official in the first week of July. Those two took care of the biggest needs the club had, now all they need is Thomas Lemar.

Thankfully, numerous sources out there are saying that the Gunners are perfectly willing to spend what needs to be spent in order to land the French creator and they want to do it soon. Ideally, he’d be wrapped up within the week, giving the club a whole month and a half to sit and marvel over the team that has been assembled.

Of course, the other benefit to that is a complete alleviation of summer stresses, which will, in turn, provide Arsene Wenger and the club with the comfort needed to go about the rest of the summer with cool heads and clear minds. Maybe they can secure some sneaky players or maybe, just maybe, they can knock out some damn contracts.

More from Pain in the Arsenal

That would be quite the feat.

And I can’t help but feel like that is the objective behind getting all these transfers done early. The biggest incentive to getting players to stay, as Alexis Sanchez has pointed out, is showing them that you are intent on winning things. Spending £100m on three dire needs is a pretty clear way to show the world that you mean business and doing it so soon in the window is just icing on the cake.

If signings like that don’t sway Alexis or Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain into staying, then it’s highly unlikely anything else will. Namely Alexis, as the Ox just wants first-team assurances. But once you hit that level of clarity, where you know if a guy is willing to stay or not, then you can start planning ahead.

That all starts with getting the transfer business done with early and if the Gunners really are intent on hastily landing Lemar, then look for the summer moves to end early. Which is perfectly okay.
