Arsenal: Marcelo Brozovic a piss-poor Thomas Lemar replacement

Arsenal look to be serious about finding another creative option, but Marcelo Brozovic is not the way to go after Thomas Lemar and Emil Forsberg.

Arsenal have a clear priority on their minds in the transfer market. With a striker and a left back in hand, they are going all in on finding another creator. Even with Mesut Ozil dedicating himself to the Gunners’ cause, Alexis Sanchez is where the questions lie and coping from losing him would mean all hands on deck.

That doesn’t mean it’s impossible though. There are plenty of players that were earmarked to be successful transition pieces. Unfortunately, some already moved while the Gunners were occupied trying to land Thomas Lemar. Corentin Tolisso and James Rodriguez, for instance, looked like stellar investments.

As of now, there look to be only two really legitimate options for accomplishing the task at hand. One, obviously, is the Monaco man, Thomas Lemar, the other is RB Leipzig creator and European assist king Emil Forsberg.

The sad fact is that both Monaco and Leipzig have said that these particular players aren’t for sale.

And now we are being tied, yet again, to Croatian creator Marcelo Brozovic. Arsenal have been linked to this guy for three years now and each time I have said the same thing – not unless you want to relapse into the same old problems of having too many undersized, under-prepared midfielders.

More from Pain in the Arsenal

Brozovic has himself some talent, obviously, but if we are eyeing him up as the solution to potentially losing Alexis or to not being able to land Lemar or Forsberg, then it is a horrible, rotten idea.

Brozovic has not been able to latch onto much success in Serie A, which is renowned as the most passing-heavy league in the world. It’s where all the great passers make a name for themselves. Chances are Andre Pirlo wouldn’t have had as much success as he did had he been playing in England. It just didn’t fit his style.

Brozovic hasn’t even been able to find much success in Italy. Just 10 goals and eight assists in three years with Inter. 5000 minutes of play.

Both Lemar and Forsberg demolished those numbers in a single year at their respective clubs.

Now, granted, the link to Brozovic this time around comes from bookies and not from any expressed interest on either side. But the thought isn’t all that foreign because it used top be Wenger’s go-to to make signings like this. That’s why I’m so adamant about not seeing it happen again.

If Lemar and Forsberg can’t be acquired this year – wait. Next year will be different. We keep Alexis and worry about the rest come January or next summer.
