With reports suggesting that Alexis Sanchez is wanting to leave the Emirates and Bayern Munich dropping out of the race, it was becoming increasingly concerning that Manchester City could be his eventual destination. However, Paris Saint-Germain have most recently emerged as favourites to sign the Chilean, making them everyone’s hero in the process.

The future of Alexis Sanchez is the overriding issue that must be settled for Arsenal to move forward. Such is the Chilean’s importance and influence to the prospects of the side, that whether he stays or goes has a huge, rippling effect on every other decision that is made this summer and beyond.

If he were to leave, then a suitable and sufficient replacement would have to be found and acquired. While the club-record addition of Alexandre Lacazette is an astute signing, one that provides the Gunners with a starring striker who can guarantee 20 goals a year, without Sanchez, another attacker would still be required.

More from Pain in the Arsenal

Arsene Wenger, though, has reiterated his intention to keep Sanchez, irrespective of whether he signs a new contract or not. Speaking ahead of the pre-season fixture against Bayern Munich in China on Wednesday, Wenger revealed:

"“The decision has been made and we will stick to that – the decision is not to sell. Every case is different, Van Persie was going from 30 to 31, when he left he had one year on his contract, Sanchez is younger.”"

Whether that is what will actually happen or not, remains to be seen. It has been Wenger’s intention and expectation that players would stay in the past, only for them to depart a few weeks later.

The concerns regarding Sanchez’s possible exit centred on the likely destination: Manchester City. Munich dropped their interest when they signed James Rodriguez, few other clubs in Europe could attract or afford his services, and Pep Guardiola is wanting to rejoin a player who flourished under him at Barcelona.

However, such worries can be settled, a little, by the emergence of Paris Saint-Germain as favourites to land the Chilean. The French champions are wanting to splash the cash this summer, and are hoping that their recent success in the Champions League can be used to prize Sanchez away from North London.

While Wenger would, seemingly, prefer to keep Sanchez, with or without a new contract, it will be welcome news to hear that PSG are the favourites to sign his most prized possession.

Very much like Robin van Persie before him, Sanchez has the quality and the calibre to drive someone to a title. Seeing him at another Premier League team would be disastrous and PSG could well be the saviours.
