Arsenal are revamping their interest in Leon Goretzka, whose situation is oddly identical to the other apple of the Gunner’s eye, Thomas Lemar.

It’s not very often that two transfer sagas look to be so similar, if not identical. But that is what Arsenal are currently working with between Monaco’s Thomas Lemar and FC Schalke’s Leon Goretzka.

The similarities are glaring, with only a few minor differences. Both would be huge coups for the club, massive successes and huge decrees of ambition, while also bolstering that last two possible areas that would need any bolstering. Both sets of two midfielders have ample troops as is, but that extra assurance and competition would go a hell of a long way.

And I haven’t even gotten into the big similarities yet.

Both are young and have a ton of potential, as well as both being relatively new to this main-stage spectrum, per say, where they are being heavily pursued for big buck moves. Arsenal are not the only name in the hat for both of these players.

Not just that, but both are being staunchly held onto by their parent clubs, with both Monaco and Schalke saying flat out that they have no intention of selling Lemar and Goretzka, respectively.

Both look to be on the cusp of brilliance as well, making huge impacts in their respective leagues.

More from Pain in the Arsenal

Both could also be needed a lot sooner than we think. I know I say the positions they play are amply covered, but that can change rather quickly. If Alexis Sanchez forces an exit, all of a sudden Lemar is in prime position for that starting spot.

If Mohamed Elneny is sold or Aaron Ramsey gets hurt, Goretzka is right there to plug the gap with little to no backlash.

The only real difference is the length of their remaining contract. Lemar is locked in until 2020, so it’s not like the waiting game will be that appealing to either him or Arsenal. they both want this to go through as soon as possible.

Goretzka, meanwhile, is in much greener pastures. He has just a year left, meaning that come January, he can start negotiating pre-contracts with whoever he wants. This is how we landed Sead Kolasinac from the very club that we can hopefully land Goretzka from.

Both are worth the money, plain and simple. These are talented young lads who play a position that the Gunners could always use more bodies at.

And for that, we have to throw in our say and point out that landing the two of them would leave no further room for question. Of anything.
