Per a report in the Daily Mirror, Arsenal are confident that they can secure a deal for Thomas Lemar. While that may be true, here is why the Sun’s coverage of the revelation is a load of sh*t.

The transfer window is in full force and the rumours and reports are beginning to fly. As is always the case, whenever reading about the next great young superstar that Arsenal are definitely going to buy, or the £200 million spending spree that Arsene Wenger is about to embark on, or the breaking of the club-record transfer fee to sign a world-class striker (oh wait! That one actually happened), a rather hefty pinch of salt must be served.

And there is now yet another example of sensationalist reporting that should not be taken all too seriously to highlight the transfer market frenzy.

More from Pain in the Arsenal

Since the £52 million addition of Alexandre Lacazette, the name most heavily linked with a possible move to the Emirates has been Monaco winger Thomas Lemar. Wenger is wanting to further the bolstering of his attacking talents, especially with the threat of Alexis Sanchez leaving, and sees the 21-year-old as the perfect man to do just that.

However, the going has not been smooth. In fact, Arsenal have seen three different bids rejected, with Monaco reportedly unwilling to sell given the exodus of stars that they have had to endure already this summer. But that hasn’t stopped The Sun from stating that the Gunners are increasingly confident that they can ‘seal a deal’ for Lemar.

Now, as is often the case with modern day rumours, it is not The Sun who are actually making the claim. They are simply re-reporting from another source. In this case, that source is The Daily Mirror, an equally detestable newspaper, and the piece is this one, all about Mesut Ozil and his potential new contract.

Yes, you read that right. The Sun have used a report from The Daily Mirror about Mesut Ozil to run a piece stating that Arsenal are growing in confidence regarding their so-far failed move for Lemar. But let’s give a little credit to The Sun, there is some mention of Lemar in the referenced piece.

It is in the last line, almost an afterthought. John Cross writes:

"“And if they do sell the South American while also clearing out fringe players in the squad – including Calum Chambers, Kieran Gibbs, Mathieu Debuchy, Carl Jenkinson and Jack Wilshere – they will make a concerted effort to get Thomas Lemar. They are confident the Monaco winger wants to move to the Emirates and are hopeful a deal could be struck.”"

Cross states that Arsenal are confident that Lemar wants to join. The Sun stated that Arsenal are confident of signing Lemar. They are two very different things. What a load of sh*t!!
