Arsenal’s contract saga with Alexis Sanchez may be a long ways from solving, but at least we have something concrete and traceable to look forward to.

Arsenal’s ongoing situation with Alexis Sanchez hasn’t really gone anywhere in the past few months, with speculation running all over the place, mainly towards the negative side of things, but that figures to change in less than a week.

Alexis returns on Monday, according to the Telegraph, and that will be the first day that Arsene Wenger and the Chilean will meet face to face after a summer of stories. Wenger has been fervently telling everyone that under no circumstances will Alexis be permitted to leave the club for the upcoming season.

Not just that, but he also staked a claim that the Chilean hasn’t even formally asked to be allowed to exit the club, which is something else entirely.

Meanwhile, Alexis said outright that he had made up his mind and submitted his request and was simply waiting to hear back from Arsenal. Which many interpreted to be a transfer request, since he also said he wants to play Champions League football.

It’s a sensible interpretation, but it still remains that we do not, and cannot possibly, know for sure.

Meaning that until that Monday meeting, the all-important face to face where the two opposite (supposedly) sides of the spectrum meet, we won’t know anything.

That said, it is pretty safe to assume that we will know something following that Monday. Alexis may be beating around the bush a bit out of respect for the club, but if he gets a concrete answer to whatever request he has made to the club, chances are we will hear about it not long after it happens. That is, unless something is agreed upon where his silence is part of the terms.

Wenger has also been pretty straightforward with reporters regarding the Chilean star, so any talks had on Monday will be followed up on in press conferences and we will be able to glean from his responses what sort of talks those were.

The press has resiliently pestered Wenger about how he has stoically said that players were “sure to stay” at Arsenal in the past (admirably so) but Le Prof has defended those actions as well, saying that the club is in a different place. Which they so clearly are.

Whatever happens, it starts on Monday. In all likelihood, it will also finish on Monday too, because these are two headstrong individuals who know what they want and what is best for them.
