Arsenal’s youth side was under the command of Jon Toral against Boreham Woods and it’s long past time for a decisive and conclusive action with the Spaniard.

With all of the irritation I’ve had to deal with regarding Wojciech Szczesny being sold on top of Serge Gnabry‘s exit last summer compiled with Calum Chambers‘ supposed exit, I had almost forgotten about the one Arsenal man who has been severely undervalued for the past three years.

And that man is Jon Toral.

it took a reminder against Boreham Woods, with the Spaniard running roughshod all over the opposition, for me to remember that I don’t think there is a single Arsenal prospect more ready for the first team than Jon Toral. He tallied a goal and an assist in the preseason friendly to compile on the Player of the Year performance he had for his season at Birmingham.

Immediate action is long overdue in regards to the Spaniard, who was of the same Barcelona class as Hector Bellerin. And who could be just as good as his fellow Spaniard if given the same chances.

Conveniently, those chances should be right there, waiting to be plucked this season, if there is any justice in North London (Lucas Perez would seem to believe there isn’t). With a midfield set-up that is pretty top heavy, there is plenty of room for Toral to sneak into the picture, either as an attacking or deep-lying midfielder, because he can do both.

More from Pain in the Arsenal

After that superb season with Birmingham, when he took home player and goal of the year honor, Toral spent last year on a bizarre and grossly unproductive loan at Granada before settling in with Scottish side Rangers.

While neither loan was particularly eye-popping, at least not compared to his Birmingham loan and his loan to Brentford before that, the experience has long been at a max. It’s time for first team.

Also thankfully, this year he will hopefully be given time in the Europa League, League Cup and FA Cup, giving him more than enough chances to prove that he can play at this level, because he has proven that he can hang at literally every other level in every other country. There is nowhere else for him to go but the Arsenal first team.

Not just that, but he is an excellent candidate for an internal Santi Cazorla replacement. He is fantastic on-the-ball presence, he passes well and he can score too. He doesn’t want for anything.
