Arsenal will welcome back Alexis Sanchez soon, but PSG decided to go ahead and hurl one last insult in his face before he gets back to business.

Arsenal’s struggle to keep hold of Alexis Sanchez is, according to Arsene Wenger, no struggle at all. He has remained adamant that nothing that any other club does, says or bids can woo the Chilean away from the Emirates in the final year of his contract. It looks like some serious confidence from Wenger. Or it might just be stubbornness, the result is the same.

But that stubbornness can’t stop other clubs from bidding and according to the always-reputable Sky Sports, PSG were willing to bid a whole £40m to secure the services of Alexis Sanchez, which is where I see the huge insult that the former Ligue 1 Champions knowingly tossed in our faces.

While pursuing Alexis, PSG have also been pursuing Neymar, who, granted, is one of the best in the world. But still, they have been tied with a move worth over £200m for the Brazilian superstar.

And all I can think is that PSG see Alexis Sanchez as 20% of the player that Neymar is. Because that is a huge, egregious mistake that should end all negotiations from now until forever. Even accounting for the age difference (Neymar is 25 and Alexis is 28) there is no possible way that that much money separates the value of these two players. And PSG know that.

Especially when considering that one – Alexis – has proven that he can perform in the toughest division in football. And not only that, but be the best (yes, I said best) player in that division.

Nothing against Neymar, because he is clearly a superb footballer, but all he has done is fit into an already unstoppable Barcelona outfit and help them continue to be unstoppable. Although not even he could stop them from falling behind Real Madrid in recent years.

PSG clearly have the money, they buy whoever the hell they want for China-like packages, so there is no excuse to bid so low on Alexis and then flirt with spending so much on Neymar. You want someone like Alexis, who will become the center piece of the fifth tier European League that Ligue 1 is? Then you can at least offer up £100m, because guess what? In this situation, that’s what he is worth.

Alexis would be taking a major downgrade to go conquer Ligue 1 and the only draw he could see is monetary. PSG need to pull their head out of the sand if they are serious about purchasing Alexis.
