Arsenal: Alexis Sanchez return breaks down remaining wall
By Josh Sippie
Arsenal’s contract saga with Alexis Sanchez feels like a battle that we are all dreading, but the final wall between those two parties has now been shattered.
It feels like no one within the club is as antsy to get Alexis Sanchez‘s future sorted out as the supporters are. Alexis really did change things at Arsenal and no matter how salty he makes us, there isn’t a soul out there who would argue that they wouldn’t be happy if he signed a new deal.

Through it all, Arsene Wenger has been very confident and reassuring throughout the matter, but unlike Mesut Ozil, Alexis has been less so. He has said nothing reassuring, nothing positive, and has only adamantly stated that he is simply waiting for the club to respond to him.
But we all kind of knew that nothing would happen before or during the preseason tour. There was too much going on, what with the Confederations Cup and the Gunners being half way across the world.
All the speculation had no basis, but it did have a timetable. As soon as all of that was over, it was business time. And now that Alexis Sanchez is back in training, there is nothing separating a final verdict being decided on.
Reports indicate that Ozil and Alexis are ‘supposed’ to sign new deals before Christmas, but what a torturous few months that’d be if we have to sit by and wonder. Once they hit January, they can start negotiating with other clubs and I can’t think of anything more deflating than hearing in March that Alexis has agreed to join Manchester City at the end of the year.

It would rob the Gunners of so much, not even in the talent department, but in the morale department. And it would lead to animosity and more nastiness at the Emirates.
There needs to be some sort of push, some sort of breakthrough to get this done now. He is at training, he is around Wenger and around his team mates. He actually looks happy, which is more than can be said when he was discussing Arsenal with reporters over the summer.
So wouldn’t it be best to really go after that new contract now? Like I said, even if it isn’t going to happen, to know one way or the other is far superior than to be left wondering what could or could not happen.

Until then, let’s just be relieved that Alexis looks happy in training. Maybe that counts for something.
