Arsenal: Thomas Lemar transfer race has only one competitor
By Josh Sippie
Arsenal have supposedly been joined by Liverpool in the race for Thomas Lemar, but this race only has one entry, and it certainly isn’t the Merseyside club.
Arsenal‘s pursuit of Thomas Lemar isn’t going as smoothly as their previous two transfer captures. Monaco remain adamant that he is too essential to their team and, as such, they have no intention of parting with him.

Which, in the worst case scenario, means we wait a year for a luxury player. There’s nothing too terrible about that.
Unless, of course, other teams get involved and start picking Lemar, hoping to pry him away from Arsenal, which is exactly what Liverpool are doing this instant. Here we are in the last month of the transfer window and after so much supposed progress by the Gunners, the Anfield side has swooped in hoping to pluck him away.

The funny thing is, they have absolutely no chance of doing so. And there are several reasons I say that, the first being that Liverpool, even with Champions League football, does not have the draw that Arsene Wenger and the Gunners do. Ask Alexandre Lacazette. Ask Alexis Sanchez.
There is a certain culture embedded in this club that can’t be match at Anfield and for them to even think they can swoop in for Lemar is, quite frankly, rather funny. Jurgen Klopp has his merits and I do believe in time he can restore some of the prestige to the club, but this is Wenger we are talking about. Le Prof. The French Genius.

Thomas Lemar wants to be a Gunner, he wants to work with Wenger. Whatever curiosity he has about the Reds and about the wild German manager are secondary to where his future truly lies.
It’s pretty evident, through the numerous reports, that Lemar wants this move and Arsenal want this move, the only thing in the way is Monaco’s insistence. Lemar is not discussing upping his contract and he even quite happily posed with Arsenal fans when on tour with Monaco.
All of these things begin to pile up and help us recognize that all of the speculation is certainly on to at least one thing – there there is no race here at all. There is no neck-and-neck bidding war to land his services.

There is only the Gunners and no matter how long it takes, that’s the way it will be. Because when Wenger really wants a player, it’s a rare thing to see it never happen.
