Arsenal are supposedly eyeing up a move for Borussia Dortmund star Ousmane Dembele and, if so, it’s past the point where timidity is allowed. They have to go all in.

Seeing as how the first Bundesliga team of the year transfer is going so well this preseason, it makes sense that Arsenal would be eyeing up another in the 28 goals creation machine, Ousmane Dembele. The Borussia Dortmund wizard set up 18 assists and scored ten goals himself in a monumental season that saw him shoot up the transfer charts.

According to the report by the Metro, the Gunners had their first bid rejected and the price has reportedly been set. Apparently he is supposed to cost a whole £90m. Let’s call it the Neymar effect.

In all seriousness though, we were also randomly told that Thomas Lemar would cost £80m and that was never exactly confirmed either.

Still, the point I want to make remains the same. Clearly Arsene Wenger is after something in particular if he is so heavily targeting Lemar and now going after Dembele. Maybe it has to do with an understanding with the Alexis Sanchez situation or maybe he has something else entirely in mind.

Whatever the case, he is supposedly going after several different creative attacking players. Lemar may have been the first, but he also took up over half the transfer window. Meaning that with just under a month left, there is no time to poke and prod and see if Dortmund will bite on Dembele. If you want the guy, go after him and get him.

More from Pain in the Arsenal

Arsenal went so hard after Lemar that Monaco had to repeatedly say that the Frenchman isn’t for sale. But in the process, we were left wondering and now the attention is turning to Ousmane Dembele. Repeating that same old process isn’t exactly something to look forward to. Least of all because of how important it appears to be.

When you get down to it, whether you end up with Lemar, Dembele or Emil Forsberg, each one accomplishes the same goal.

However, each one also may not be more readily available until next summer. In which case I’ll repeat what I said when I was talking about Adrien Rabiot – go after them with clear intentions, yes, but don’t just scoop up a desperation buy if they can be obtained next summer.

Because as far as I can see, with Alexis and Mesut Ozil both staying put this year, the necessity isn’t there. Now, if Wenger wants to sell Alexis, then that’s a whole new story. But for now, the best Wenger can do is go after Dembele with even more intensity than he went after Lemar.
