Arsenal has been so gung-ho about Thomas Lemar that you’d think we needed him or something. Now that they are focusing on selling, we can actually move forward.

Arsenal don’t seem to be very good at multitasking in the transfer window, and that might come down to the lack of a sporting director to handle transfers. Instead, Arsene Wenger does everything as the board aren’t exactly football people either.

So when they focus on one transfer, they are just golden. But try to get them to focus on two things and it doesn’t seem to work. Which is part of the reason why so many players who need to be sold have built up this far into the transfer window. All the focus has been on acquiring Thomas Lemar that the dead weight is still pretty heavy and most certainly still dead.

Wenger himself has said, as reported by Sky Sports, that the club needs to be trimmed before anymore signings can be made, so let’s get to it then, eh?

But first, that means putting Thomas Lemar on hold. Which is rough, because we all want him so badly. However, the simple fact is that until we sell some serious players, then we just have a cluttered mess that leaves more people pissed than happy.

Not just that, but the Lemar battle doesn’t seem to be going anywhere lately and in that time, it looks like Monaco have softened their stance with their own addition of Rachid Ghezzal from Lyon.

More from Pain in the Arsenal

Surely they still won’t be in a hurry though, which gives the Gunners time to wrap up key sales in the next couple weeks, judge their offensive capabilities in the first two matches, and then either pull the trigger or put it off for next summer.

Which, if they do, will put them in a position of power, because next summer should also bring about more options for Wenger to focus on. Meaning that it won’t just be Lemar that we’re hounding after, it will be equally (if not moreso) talented guys like Emil Forsberg. Moussa Dembele could also be closer to a move.

It just hasn’t happened thus far, and obstinately sticking with it looks desperate and steals attention away form other key requirements this summer. Get that stuff out of the way as the transfer window winds down. That’s when you can really push to see if Monaco are willing to sell after all.

And again, it’s not like it’s the end of the world if he doesn’t move this time around.
