Arsenal has been ‘advised’ by club legend Ian Wright to ask a question about Diego Costa. Is this a joke? Because that is the dumbest thing ever.

I don’t like when people stay stupid things and I like it even less when it is an Arsenal legend. But you have to be careful. When Tony Adams was ‘picking a fight’ with his former club, it wasn’t as bad as was being reported.

That said, what Ian Wright is now suggesting is probably the dumbest thing I have ever heard.

With all the talk of Chelsea striker Diego Costa going back to Spain, Wright has other ideas. As in, he wants Arsene Wenger to go ahead and make a bid for the hot-headed Spaniard, who, according to Rob Holding, has something wrong with his head.

If you refuse to believe this, like me, then go ahead and have a look at his actual statement (as quoted by the Metro):

"To be honest, as fanciful and unlikely as it may be, I’d also like to see Arsenal at least dipping their toe in the water for Diego Costa as well. For all the talk of him going back to Spain, nothing’s been done yet, so at least ask the question. Because despite all his antics, he is also a brilliant, proven Premier League goalscorer."

Like I said, I can’t think of many worse ideas.

More from Pain in the Arsenal

Diego Costa is a proven Premier League goal scorer? Sure. But he is as hot and cold as anyone in the history of the game. When it goes bad for him, it crashes, burns and turns to ash. He is so reliant on getting into defenders’ heads that when he doesn’t (FA Cup Final) he falls flat on his face.

He is a striker of the same mold as Olivier Giroud, who requires service to be successful. However, unlike Giroud, Costa will crumble if he doesn’t get it.

Why you would want two strikers so similar in skill set is bad enough. But add to that the fact that the Gunners already have Alexandre Lacazette added to the repertoire. What more can Costa add to the fray? Because I’m leaning towards an answer of ‘nothing.’

Costa has fallen so quickly because people get it now. He’s a mental marauder. Don’t buy into his games and you’ll be just fine.

There is absolutely no reason to take a massive risk on a player that you just don’t need. Sorry Mr. Wright, you’ve had some solid ideas, but this is certainly not one of them.
