Arsenal once relied on Aaron Ramsey for just about everything, but now they can sit back and simply enjoy everything that he will bring in his return to Super Rambo.

Arsenal had their first experience of letting a single player carry the team in 2013/14 when Aaron Ramsey shed his civilian clothes for a super hero outfit and assumed his alternate identity of Super Rambo.

Just like that, the Gunners had one of the best central midfielders in all of the footballing world and the only way to go was up. He scored, created, and was everywhere, with an engine that never died.,

Everyone knows how the story went from there. Constant injuries mixed with the accompanying inconsistency kept him from ever attaining the heights he reached that fateful year again. But the patience that Arsene Wenger showed in him may well be paying off.

Last year, when the 3-4-2-1 was first enacted, I made the somewhat audacious claim that Super Rambo was back. He was showing all the signs of superstardom that he showed in his prolific campaign in 2013/14 and it all seemed to come so easily again.

The formula was pretty simple. He was Super Rambo again for the Welsh international side in the 2016 Euros and they used a 3-5-2 formation. The key to that was that it gave Ramsey all the freedom he needed to just do his own thing – something the Gunners hadn’t been able to afford him.

More from Pain in the Arsenal

But the 3-4-2-1, while not as freeing as the 3-5-2, has loosened up Ramsey’s leash and allowed him to play his own game, which in turn has led to the brilliance that we should have all known he was capable of.

All we need to see now is health. Consistency isn’t even a factor because as long as he is healthy and next to the deep-lying Granit Xhaka, he is going to be consistent. I have no doubts about that. If he stays healthy this 2017/18 season, I have no qualms predicting another 15 goal, 10 assist season. With all the weapons he has, it would almost be harder not to.

These are supposed to be Ramsey’s prime years, the years when he reaches his full potential. I reckon he hit those years awhile ago and has just needed a good string of health to get back to them.

Thankfully, that is literally the only thing he needs. Because everything just comes naturally for him. And that is where the true value is.
