Arsenal’s win over Leicester City allowed plenty of players to shine, but who would have thought that a defender – Sead Kolasinac – would shine the most. So what next?

Arsenal’s defensive line against Leicester City was shaky at best. They allowed far too much from set pieces and even more from pesky counter attacks that seemed to be wholly unstoppable. And Gray Neville took the time to berate the entire defensive set up as social media cried out for a new center back.

Of course, with such a battered defensive line in terms of injuries and suspensions, it wasn’t exactly surprising, though the lapses from set pieces against a team that isn’t exactly towering over anyone’s heads is inexcusable.

Nacho Monreal did his best to hold it all together but he’s not a center back.

Then there was Sead Kolasinac. The Bosnian was forced to play as a left-sided center back rather than the wing back role we undoubtedly bought him for, yet it was he who stole the show. Numerous polls across social media were in favor of the Bosnian being named man of the match and for obvious reasons.

He was sharp and decisive winning the ball back, intelligent going forward and his penetration is fantastic, hence the selfless assist to Danny Welbeck.

So now we have to wonder what is next for Kolasinac. Wenger has been using him at center back so much recently that you have to think he likes the idea of him playing centrally, but let’s not overthink his involvement. As we have learned with Xhaka and Ramsey, sometimes it’s best to play into a guys strengths and not play him out of position.

While Kolasinac certainly isn’t out of position in the back three, he would be so much better off on the left-hand side, where his penetrating runs and deftness winning the ball back would win that entire flank for the Gunners seemingly every time we take the pitch.

Kolasinac gets forward so much, though, that I wonder if it won’t end up biting the Gunners in the arse at some point on the counter and I don’t want to have to worry about that, nor should Wenger. So let him play a position that allows for such movement and reap the rewards.
