Arsenal Thierry Henry just another talking head who missed the point
By Josh Sippie
Arsenal’s win against Leicester City is rightfully getting scrutinized, but you’d expect Thierry Henry to get the point, but alas, he hasn’t.
Everyone and their sister is talking about how Arsenal isn’t any different. How they look like garbage and won’t amount to anything this year. You heard it from Gary Neville first, now we are even hearing it from club legend Thierry Henry.

The Gunners pulled off a thrilling 4-3 victory that showed so much fight and determination, but apparently that doesn’t matter. All people want to talk about is the defense, and Henry is unfortunately no different.
Here’s his “fresh take” as quoted by the Daily Express:
"People can have a go at the defence but when you play in a back three, it is what is happening in front of you that counts a lot. If you don’t apply pressure well you will be exposed in a back three."
But wait! There’s more:
"Are you always going to score four and concede three? At some point you will be found out. It was the first game of the season and, yes, some of the guys were new in the team. But based on how they played, I saw that too often last year. I didn’t see any change."
That’s right. Thierry Henry saw zero change from the Gunners. Which, actually, is a good thing. Because this Arsenal defense was a collection of out of position fill-ins and inexperienced newbies that showed their inexperience and lack of comfort at every opportunity.

So if you see no change when the back line is a hodgepodge of whoever is available, then great! That means that when the first team defense comes back to health and from suspension, that there will be change, there will be solid defending and no, there won’t be three goals a game surrendered. That is quite silly to think about.
What am I missing here? Why does everyone harp about a defense that isn’t even their defense?
Last year, after Arsenal switched to the 3-4-2-1 with a first-team defense, they won every single game except for one. And that includes victories over Manchester City, Manchester United and two over Chelsea. For a grand total of 11 wins and one measly loss. And in those 12 matches (going up to the Community Shield) they surrendered just seven goals.
That’s not three a game. If you are going to bite and think that one game defines the club, then what the hell are we even talking about?
