Arsenal have managed to miss out on Jean Michael Seri twice in one transfer window, but that being the case, we can trust in the future to come.

Arsenal’s relative need for a deep-lying, versatile midfielder should rank at the top of their transfer list. Someone who can cover when Aaron Ramsey or Granit Xhaka are not available. While Mohamed Elneny has his uses, stepping up and being a consistent member of the first team picture is not yet one of them.

Names have circulated the transfer rumor circles, some looking fantastic (Leon Goretzka) and some looking pretty crappy (Marcelo Brozovic) but right up there near the fantastic option there was Jean Michael Seri.

The Nice midfielder is exactly the type the Gunners should looking for, as he isn’t predominantly defensive and he has the ability to track all over the pitch.

Early on in the transfer window, the Gunners missed out on him when he agreed to move to Roma, but that move fell through. Which should have gave the Gunners new life, but an entire month of complete silence later and we are now hearing, it must be said, that he is going to be landing at Liverpool.

And through it all, not a peep from the Gunners. No registered interest. Nothing. Just silence as they try to offload players that don’t need to be offloaded and keep hold of players they shouldn’t be keeping hold of.

I’m not going to say I was all in on Seri. I liked the idea of him coming to the Gunners, but I wasn’t blown away or salivating over his arrival. Not like I was Leon Goretzka.

More from Pain in the Arsenal

That being said, I am taking an optimistic approach to seeing the Gunners miss out on the same player twice in the same transfer window. I am looking at it as a sign that there are better thing to come in the future. And by better things, I mean better players.

And by better players, I of course mean Leon Goretzka, whose contract expires at the end of next summer.

Goretzka was all over the transfer talks until he adamantly talked them down, pinpointing those vile rumors tying him to a move to Bayern Munich. Which eliminated the one team that seemed in a better position to land the German and opened the door for the Gunners.

But they would have to pre-negotiate a deal, as they did with Sead Kolasinac, who just so happened to come from the same team.

The only reason I could understand Arsenal’s complete silence in the holding midfielder transfer market after seemingly being on board early on, is that Goretzka is already in the works.

Call me a blind optimist, I won’t be offended. I’m just really gunning for Goretzka to come to the Emirates.
