Arsenal’s summer has been completely hit and miss, with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain on the brink of being a colossal miss of epic proportions.

Arsenal has had a lot go right this transfer window. Well, by a lot, I mean two things. They landed two fantastic players. Other than that, it has an utter train wreck. They are selling all the wrong players for all the wrong prices and keeping all the wrong players with all the wrong price tags.

And that doesn’t even include the contract rebels. Arguably the three most important players on this club have their contracts expiring in under a year and there has been no noticeable progress with any of them.

If anything, it has been more negative than positive. In fact, let’s take it one step further – there has been zero positive on the contract front. Alexis Sanchez wants to leave. Mesut Ozil wants to stay, but apparently that doesn’t matter to the club.

And Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, well… he’s putting up one hell of a pressure-filled situation.

After what felt like an initial breakthrough, given the reports, we have had to put up with countless rumors tying Oxlade-Chamberlain to a move to a direct rival, which is hardly something I even want to think about.

More from Pain in the Arsenal

And now, with time ticking down, there are reportedly (according to SkySports, mind you) set to be showdown talks this Thursday. But according to reports, the two parties are not all that close to reaching an agreement.

Scattered reports indicate that Oxlade-Chamberlain is demanding over double his current contract, going upwards of £150,000. Meanwhile, Arsenal are supposedly only willing to get as high as £125,000, and that report is not all that widespread.

This is a pressure cooker of a situation here, because there is no way out of it without giving us an answer. If we make it through the week and hear nothing, it’s safe to assume that nothing was agreed upon. Which could mean they are just prolonging talks or, and more likely, it means that nothing could be agreed upon.

Which would obviously not be a very good thing.

This is probably the first time that we have had something concrete to look for, however. That is, assuming that SkySports is bang on with their report.

This is obviously a player that we need to keep. The worst thing in the world is to be so patient with a guy and then see him slip away right as he starts to reach the levels you’ve waited for.
