Arsenal are in a mess. After a 4-0 hammering from Liverpool, there are reports that Alexis Sanchez, Shkodran Mustafi and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain all could leave. They are in need of a saviour. Thankfully, they may have found one in Julian Draxler.

It’s fair to say that Arsenal are in a shambles. After a summer of set-up and preparations, with a degree of early business, a spouting of ambition and an admittance that sales are a necessity suggesting that a ruthless streak of activity would ensue, building on those foundations has not materialised, with hesitancy and ambiguity the reigning atmosphere engulfing the Emirates.

Such delaying from Arsene Wenger has led to the club entering the final days of the window, in the aftermath of a 4-0 dismantling at the hands of Liverpool that exposed the age-old defensive and naive weaknesses that have crippled the team for over a decade, in absolute disarray. This is a club in turmoil.

More from Pain in the Arsenal

With the expectation that Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain will leave the club in the coming days, an ongoing saga for Alexis Sanchez to be settled, and the puzzling reports suggesting that Shkodran Mustafi could leave, with Inter Milan the most prominent of the interested clubs, there are still many issues that must be settled between now and Thursday night’s transfer deadline.

Such uncertainty requires an instigation and inspiration. There is so much news that is down-heartening; there is very little positive feeling around the club. Arsenal need a refreshing, a shiny, new star to breathe life into a stagnating and rotting organisation. Well, there may be one available.

After the remarkable signing of Neymar, compounded by reports suggesting that Kylian Mbappe could follow the Brazilian, Julian Draxler, who fell out of favour last season, has grown disillusioned with life at Paris-Saint Germain and is reportedly pursuing a possible departure.

And it has more recently been suggested that Arsenal are again interested in securing the services of the talented German. Draxler has long been linked with a move to North London from his time at Schalke and Wolfsburg but nothing has ever come of it. Perhaps now the time has come for Wenger to land his man.

If Sanchez was to leave the club in the coming days, then Draxler would be the ideal replacement. Gliding in his style with the technical skill to float past players with great ease and elegance, Draxler commits defenders to challenges, he creates space as a result and has the decision making and the skill to produce at the end of his mazy runs.
