Arsenal have supposedly been flirting with Manchester City youngster Jadon Sancho all summer, and in a swap for Alexis, he is more valuable than Raheem Sterling.

Arsenal’s problematic season could get more problematic if deadline day doesn’t provide any answers. Especially in the Alexis Sanchez arena.

The Gunners dished Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain incredibly quickly. As soon as it was clear he didn’t want to be here. That had to resonate with Alexis and, if the Chilean really doesn’t want to be here, then by all means, sell him. But get something that’s right in return. Something that you can work with.

Sergio Aguero is an excellent candidate, although I’m not sure how he would fit into the current set-up.

Raheem Sterling is no an excellent candidate.

Jadon Sancho, however, may carry the most value of all three.

The thing with Sancho is the world is open to him. He has a ton of growing to do and you just never know how high he can fly.

With Raheem Sterling we know what we’re getting. And I know, he’s only 22 and could still develop. But for the past half decade, he’s been the same dark alleyway runner with very little additions.

More from Pain in the Arsenal

It’s all about what you’d rather have. If you would prefer the package that Sterling brings, then stick by your man. I, for one, don’t. He will never reach Alexis Sanchez’s level, like most people, but at least with Sancho, there is upside. With the right development, he could surpass Sterling in very little time.

Arsenal’s biggest need isn’t to have another Welbeck, Walcott, Oxlade-Chamberlain – which Sterling certainly is.

What the Gunners need most is hunger. A desire to actually be here. And as much as it sucks to admit, most of our current first team doesn’t have that. They are down in the dumps.

Energetic young players like Reiss Nelson or Jadon Sancho can change that. When they bring their energy to the club, they don’t just benefit themselves, they benefit their team mates who are devoid of energy. They show them that if they don’t step up, that these young guys are very real options.

It’s not desperation time for the Gunners. We are just three games in. A lot can happen from there. But finding a font of energy is crucial. It won’t come from Alexis. These young guys, guys like Sancho and Nelson, could unlock the font.

Of course, it all depends on how highly City value their young man, who apparently has been MIA for most of his club’s training this week. As we damn well know, a player who doesn’t want to be where he is, is better off elsewhere.

Naturally though, with Sancho reportedly agreeing to sign with Borussia Dortmund, this whole idea is off, and Alexis returns to a cash only deal.
